History

The Architect:
Benjamin Henry Latrobe was born in England in 1764 and studied under Europe's most prestigious architects. Emigrating to America in 1795-96, Latrobe established himself as the foremost architect, engineer and designer of the new republic. He designed and collaborated on some of the country's most important structures, including the United States Capitol, and helped create a distinctly American style of architecture.
